Our Customers - Our enemies

The New York Times > Business > Media & Advertising > Movie Industry Preparing Suits on File Sharing. The article talks to the pattern of the entertaiment/media production industries towards hysterical sue-happinnes in the shady area of file-sharing.

It is profoundly disturbing that the industries, that live on the individual consumption of their product, consider these consumers their enemies and agressively pursue fear tactics like law suits. All of this has to do with the idea of sharing - and the profound distaste of the media conglomerates for this basic social action that is a fundamental building block of our lives and our social relationships. It is very difficult to stop people from sharing... regardless of the tactics. I wonder though, when the larger companies will realize that instead of fighting "sharing" they need to consider harnessing this process and finding ways to capitalize on it.
